This is Alexander Ambulance from Evansville IN. Acquired by Mercy Ambulance, Now AMR in Evansville. (I have a pic of their lighed sign and it matches this patch.)

Founder: The Alexander Family (owners of Alexander Funeral Home)

Acquired by Mercy Ambulance 10-14-1993

Alexander Ambulance was established in 1921 during the era of horse-drawn ambulances as a part of the family Funeral Home business. One of the first motorized vehicle was purchased in 1939, a straight Buick flexible.

- 1946 Alexander equipped the ambulance fleet with telephones and established an air ambulance service.
- In 1948 Alexander incorporated the ambulance business separately from the Funeral Business.
- 1950 Crews were required to complete Red Cross First Aid Training.
- 1957 the first air-conditioned ambulances were introduced.

Thru the 1960's and 1970's Alexander Ambulance continued a period of remarkable achievements.

- In 1970 IHERN - The Indiana Hospital Emergency Room Network was established which included the first ambulance to hospital radio system. This system enabled Alexander to document the first pre-hospital Cardiac Arrest save in Indiana.
- 1970's the fleet was changed to Type II ambulances, and the first Modular type ambulances were deployed for Neonatal Transport.
- 1973 Alexander required EMT Certification.
- 1979 Several EMTs advanced the Paramedic Level; and Alexander was recognized as one of the first Paramedic Level Providers in the state.

In the 1980's Alexander Ambulance solidified their service area by progressively pursuing and obtaining EMS Contracts in Evansville and Vanderburgh Counties and increasing the number of crews and stations to improve response times.

In the 1990's Alexander continued to expand their and focused on Clinical improvements such as telemetry, and 12 Lead EKG's.

On October 14, 1993, Alexander Ambulance was sold to Mercy Ambulance from Grand Rapids MI.

At the time of the sale, Alexander had over 100 employees and 10 ambulances.
